Our story

We're Student Bees

UCSB students committed to helping our community — one task at a time.

Origin

How It Started

It started in San Francisco, with a simple idea: what if we could earn money doing something that actually helped people, on our own schedule, in our own community?

We started small — helping neighbors with household tasks, cleaning cars, raking leaves, fixing fences. What began as a way to make money without the constraints of a traditional job quickly became something more. We weren't just checking off tasks. We were building relationships.

The jobs were meaningful, but the connections were even more meaningful.

Our circle grew. Relatives called. Word spread. We started knocking on doors across San Francisco, offering our help to anyone who would listen. We began with car washes, but discovered that people needed more — real, hands-on help with the kind of tasks that pile up when you live alone or when your family lives far away.

Today, when we visit San Francisco, we still go to lunch or dinner with past clients who genuinely want to know how we're doing. That's not a transaction. That's community.

When we came to UC Santa Barbara, we saw the same opportunity — a campus full of hardworking students who want flexible, rewarding work, and a local community full of people who could use a helping hand and a friendly face. Student Bees was born from that overlap. We're not just a service. We're neighbors.
